About us

We are a non political, non religious charity, based on the Black Isle in the Highlands of Scotland.

Our organisation was originally motivated by the Norwegian humanitarian and explorer, Fridtjof Nansen

The organisation first established it's presence in 1969 in Hereford shire. Nansen International Children's Centre (NICC) provided holidays for children from the inner cities. The centre was run on a purely voluntary basis and ceased it's operations 8 years later.

The organisation moved to the Highlands in 1991 under the name of The Nansen Society. Finally, The Nansen Society changed it's name into Nansen Highland on 1st of April 1999 and became a Scottish charity.

“SCSWIS is the new unified independent scrutiny and improvement body for care and children’s services and has a significant part to play in improving services for adults and children across Scotland. We regulate and inspect care services and carry out social work and child protection inspections. We are here to make sure that people receive the highest quality of care and that their rights are promoted and protected.” (info from SCSWIS web site)

The inspection reports can be found on the Care Inspectorate web site. Just input the care commission service number.
