Specialised day training

Nansen Highland offers a specialised training package to young people with extra needs.  These young people may not have the chance to learn the different abilities that people need to find their way in a complex society, such as the abilities to read and write; the ability to understand and work effectively within society's rules and values, the ability to organise one's daily life, and the ability to cope with difficulties at home or at work.

We aim to offer the young adults the opportunities they deserve to develop into stable, self-confident and socially minded individuals.

With this aim, emphasis is put on developing job skills, life skills and social  skills.

Each person will follow a specially designed training programme, which will have been decide upon with the young adult, parents, career officer, social worker etc. The aim here is to help the young adult develop the skills that will be most valuable to them in the future, whether these are social skills, vocational skills, independence skills or a combination of all these.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Nansen are now delivering the internationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh's Award.  The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities for anyone aged 14-24.  Doing their DofE gives young people the opportunity to experience new activities or develop existing skills.  There are three progressive levels of programmes which when successfully completed lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.  Young people create their own DofE programme by choosing a volunteering, physical, and skills activity, and going on an expedition.

Nansen was invited, by Highland Council and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (Scotland), to be part of a pilot project looking at expanding the DofE programme to be more accessible to young people with Additional Support Needs

First Aid Awareness

Nansen Highland is a pilot project to offer First Aid Awareness to our young adults, in partnership with the British Red Cross.

The ‘Every day First Aid’ course has been adapted to the various life scenarios the young adults can find themselves in.
